Growing up in Michigan as a child, I used to love all of the active outdoor winter activities that my family would take part in. Ice skating, sledding, snowman building, snowball throwing, snow fort building all made for a fun winter. But as much as I loved playing in the snow, I really looked forward to coming home to some homemade stovetop, creamy hot cocoa. Mom always had a pan filled with the creamy chocolate goodness.
I really wanted to recreate that recipe. It may not be as convenient as the store-bought packets of cocoa, but it tastes so much better than any store-bought cocoa ever could. I also love that it can be made with either regular milk or non-dairy milk like almond or coconut. That makes it accessible to those who aren’t able to consume dairy.
This cocoa will warm you to your toes on a cold winter day. It is very simple to make and would make mom and grandma proud. There is nothing like going back to hot cocoa the way my Mom used to make it!
And don’t forget to top your cocoa with some real, fresh whipped cream….yum! This is my favorite type of organic raw cacao! I use it all of the time!
This recipe is both gluten-free and grain-free.
