What do I do on a beautiful Sunday afternoon? Clean my house while having deep thoughts. I’ve been thinking about happiness a lot lately because I know how miserable I was in my younger years and just how far I’ve come. I made myself do the work because I realized that if I wanted to be happy, it all started with me. Here are some of the things I’ve done to transform my life…

Want to be truly happy in life?

Stop telling yourself when/then stories (when I lose weight then I’ll be happy, when I have more money I’ll be happy, etc.). Choose to be happy no matter what your situation is now! Stop waiting for things to be perfect before you do something. Do it even when it’s not perfect. Find every excuse to dress up. Eat chocolate for breakfast if you feel like it. Turn off the news. Laugh as often as you can. Choose to love fully….even when your heart has been broken before.

Go to a mirror, look yourself in the eyes and say “I love you”….every day. Know that you don’t need a “soulmate” to complete you…you are already complete all by yourself. Walk away from friends and family members who drain your energy instead of lifting you up. Unfollow the complainers and toxic people on social media. Instead, fill your social media feed with people who are positive, inspiring, and who do lift you up! Don’t forget to play and be silly!

Fill your life with things that bring you joy and make you smile. Always speak your truth, even if the rest of the world doesn’t understand. Dance around your living room to music you love…just because you can. Learn to love your own company. Stop worrying about what other people think about you…their opinion of you doesn’t matter, only yours does. Look for the blessing or lesson in every difficult situation (there is always one there). Realize that you have the right to question every belief you have…many were taught to you at an early age and may not actually resonate with who you really are.

Spend time outside and notice the beauty of nature. Stop throughout your day and think of something you’re grateful for. The more you practice gratitude, the more joy you’ll feel. No one has the power to make you feel anything unless you allow it, so stop giving that power away! No one else is responsible for your happiness, only you are. You are far more powerful than you’ve been led to believe by society. Your thoughts and beliefs can impact your health, so improve your thoughts to improve your health. It is your life, no one else has the right to tell you what is best for you, only you know what is best for you.

You are an amazing, imperfect human being who is here for a reason…it’s up to you to discover what that is. The only thing holding you back from your greatness is feeling like you are not enough. Start telling yourself you are enough throughout the day every day and you will become unstoppable! Start believing that you don’t have to struggle all the time and that you deserve to be happy because you do!

And by the way…

That picture above? One of the things that have always made me happy and make me feel the magic in life is Disney! So in September of 2019, I made the decision to go with a group of my girlfriends to Walt Disney World to celebrate my 50th birthday! And of course, I had to get a picture with Minnie because she is my favorite! That picture is me living my best life!
